My Background

I'm a real-estate broker and an attorney (licensed in Alabama, Texas, and Mississippi). I was formerly a partner in the Finance and Real Estate Group of Baker Botts LLP, a top global law firm headquartered in Houston. I then maintained my own practice, representing high-net worth individuals, partnerships, and companies in real estate and other transactions. I also represented these and similar clients, as a broker and advisor, in the acquisition, improvement, management, and disposition of large and high-value ranches and properties.

My legal and brokerage experience spans a broad range of residential, land, and commercial development and investment. I was the lead attorney for a Fortune 500 corporation in the acquisition of a country club and conference center and the assemblage of surrounding land tracts for a master-planned residential community, totaling over 4,000 acres and $100,000,000 of initial capital investment. I had a principal role in all phases of transactional work for a national/global real-estate company, including permanent financings and equity investments with institutional investors, phased development of large-scale office and industrial parks, and leasing. I have sourced, negotiated, performed due diligence on, closed, consulted on value-enhancing improvements for, and sold numerous high-value properties, as a fiduciary advisor to individuals and private entities. I have also represented private oil and gas development companies, mineral companies, and frac-sand companies, as well as sourced and brokered mineral and non-op assets. The average price point of the properties I've brokered (Texas and Alabama combined) is about $2.5MM.

I grew up in a farming family, on pancake-flat delta land near the Mississippi River, three miles south of a one-stoplight town. My wife, Nancy, grew up “big-city” (Dallas) but has long since seen the light. We have a passion for everything Southern, including the history, architecture, landscapes, music, and food. [I even like kudzu, because seeing it blanketing the trees and bayous as a young child meant we were almost to Granny's and Granddaddy's house in Natchez.] Most of all, we love the culture and the people. We love the slightly slower pace, the focus on family, the extra dose of friendly, and the disposition to be just a little happier.

I’m also a writer (fiction, non-fiction, and copywriting). My most recent books are Walking With God – How a Simple, Daily Habit Can Change Your Life (Christian Living/Inspirational) and Tales From The River (33 short stories, for all ages). I am also the author of the Ghost Eagles action-adventure series for young adults.

We try to laugh as much as possible, and we thank God daily for His amazing blessings in our lives.
